Once you complete the Book Of Spells Quest the time limit for this hobby will start straight away, to begin this hobby you need to buy the magic wand podium from the promotions r us store or the sorcerous supplies store for S5,000 and place it in one of your sims houses:
I cannot place the magic wand podium, it says its locked/ limited item, what do I do? You will have this problem if you try and place it from the new items tab, look in your inventory instead to be able to place the magic wand podium in one of your sims houses.
If you complete this hobby in the 7 day time limit you will unlock the imperial barn owl:
Your teen or adult sim needs to click on the magic wand podium and select one of the options:
- Quick Spell- 2 hours 30 minutes
- Spell Casting Session- 8 hours 30 minutes
NOTE: the first time you complete this hobby you can only buy one magic wand podium so only one sim can complete this hobby but you can send another sim to a neighbours town to complete this hobby (if they have a magic wand podium) after the first time as many sims as you want can complete this hobby as you can buy as many magic wand podiums as you want
After the time has passed come back and click the exclamation mark above your sims head to find one of the spell casting collectibles. Every time your sims complete one of the options above their spell casting hobby skill level up percentage will increase, once they reach 100% they will level up, there are 6 levels. You need to reach level 6 to be able to unlock all of the spell casting collectibles, once unlocked you will be able to find them.
The table below shows the level up percentage for each option:

NOTE: it says 169% but you will start from 0% at level 2
The next table shows you for each level what spell casting collectibles you unlock (so you can then find those ones too) and also the level up reward that a second and future sims will receive when they level up in this hobby:

NOTE: only the first sim completing this hobby needs to get to level 6 to unlock all the collectibles, future sims will be able to find any collectible even if they are only on level 1 in this hobby (and they can do the shortest option to try and find the collectibles quicker!)
You won’t find a new collectible each time, you will get repeats, if this happens just keep going, you will find them eventually! If it is still taking too long you can use the lucky spin on the row where you cannot find the item, this will cost LPs, when you click on the LP button it will clear the row and give you a random collectible on that row so you aren’t guaranteed a new item (you will get back any other collectibles you already had in that row) Need to earn some LPs to use the lucky spin?
The completed spell casting collection is shown below, once you complete the collection you need to click ‘start a new collection’ at the top of the hobby collection screen, this clears the board so you can complete the collection again to earn more rewards (you will only get the option to restart the hobby collection when you have completed the collection):
You will earn XPs when you complete a row in the hobby but to complete the collection you need to find all 12 of the collectibles
If you complete this hobby in the time limit you will unlock the Imperial Barn Owl, which can be found in the Sorcerous supplies store and pet section of the home store and costs 15LP. Disappointingly it is just like a wall decoration, I was hoping it would fly around the house!
The rewards for completing this collection are the broomstick flying hobby and 5LP:
- The first time you complete this collection you unlock the broomstick flying hobby (even if you don’t manage to complete in the time limit) again this is a time limited hobby and the time limit will begin as soon as you complete the spell casting hobby
- From the second time onwards each time you complete the collection you will earn 5LP

I done the wizard quest and bought a dragon, but I bought it for a sim which lives on a boat.. The dragon should appear near the post box.. But boats don’t have post boxes 😦 where would it be?? O.o

There are often various time options for practising hobbies. Do you have a recommendation for Quick Spell (2.5hrs) vs. Spell Casting Session (8.5hrs)? Or is the experience equivalent for time? I basically want to get it done as quick as possible and was hoping you’d have a recommendation. What do you do? Thanks in advance 🙂
The longer options are good when you want to level up as for most hobbies they do increase your skill level more than the short option, then once at level 6 I would just do the short option so you can find all the items as quickly as possible

I have one of those “stupid” questions. I’m doing the spell casting hobby and trying to get it done in time to buy the owl. A couple of times when I first started the hobby I got a pop up letting me know I could buy the wizards outfit for my sim. So is this just an advertisement or a suggestion? Does it help find the pieces faster or do you know?

Do you think something is off with my game if I keep getting the same object? I’m a level 3 now and I’ve done the spell casting hobby 3 times–the 8.5 hour one and I get the same prize every time. Is that abnormal? Thanks!
No its not abnormal, sometimes you are just unlucky and find the same ones alot, you just have to keep going
Where is the Spell Casting outfit for the adult female Sim? I looked in the costume store and it wasn’t there.

Here’s a little tip I wish I would have figured out before now. I only have 5 hours left to complete this so its not helping me but should help you:
After you purchase your 1 podium choose one sim for the next seven days to continuously do the spell casting. Now, send another sim to a “Friends” town on the party boat and try to find a podium there. If you find one put another sim on there and keep him doing the spell casting hobby. And that’s how you get two sims to do the hobby. Both sims will equally level up and double your odds.
PS you’re better off spending the LP to finish the task quicker instead of spending it to roll the random dice to get the object you need.
Hi! I am spellcasting as a hobby and received a popup that I should buy clothes for my new sorcerer. When I went to Home Store, the Hobby button is no longer there and I also went to her wardrobe to look and it doesn’t include the clothes there…? Am I looking in the wrong places?? Thanks!
The outfit should be in the wardrobe but if you haven’t built the costume and swim store yet that may be why it isn’t showing up but honestly it isn’t essential to wear the outfit while doing the hobby
I received the outfit but only in one color. It shows a couple of different color costumes in the picture of the event. Are you only supposed to get the one color?
Yes they are only available in one colour for a life stage, so the adult females is different to the adult males one.

Anyway I didn’t take heed and wasted SO many lps on this, trying to get the owl. I sent one sim to cast spells at a neighbours house and spent HOURS on end earning Lps to finish each spell quickly in the hopes I would get there. Never ever got the blue toadstools. OMG!! I want my weekend back. I was obsessed. I should have listened to you, lovely! That’s all 🙂 x

Hi !!! I’ve read a lot of the questions and comments so as not to repeat it again and again. (Wish others had.) You’ve provided a lot of help and it’s greatly appreciated. Now, my question. I’ve completed the quests for the Spellcasting hobby and the broomstick-flying hobby. I bought the podium and started Spellcasting. I went to cook dinner and it said I couldn’t do both hobbies of Spellcasting and cooking. No problem. Just eat at a friend’s house. Then I bought the flying broom closet and wanted to go for a ride. It said that I couldn’t do both hobbies to fly AND cast spells. How do I do both?

The problem is a sim can only do one hobby at one time, so one sim cannot do spellcasting and broomstick flying, you will need to get another sim to do broomstick flying unfortunately
The time expired on the Saved By the Spell quest and I couldn’t complete it. I have several things I and unable to do because of that. How do I bypass that?
Once the time runs out you can still complete the quest, you just don’t get the limited timed prize.
I completed the spell casting collection with 3 days to spare using LP and I didn’t get the owl. I looked at the Sorcerous Supplies and the Pet store and no owl 😒😔
the owl can be found in the pet section of the home store like it says in the post.

I haven’t collected more than two objects in the potion brewing hobby, and my sim is already in level 4. Will i ever collect anything else

Hiya, I don’t know why but I just can’t find the last collectable for this hobby.
I’ve been doing it non stop with the same sim but although I’ve started and completed other hobbies since starting this one I still haven’t unlocked the broomstick hobby…which sucks because the magical hobbies are my favourite (and I’m sulking because I really wanted that owl ☹️)
I know I just have to keep going but this seems crazy slow, I tried desperately to finish on time, used Lps but nope and still nothing since, at this rate I think I’ll finish the fishing first! Any ideas?

Unfortunately there isn’t much I can suggest, some hobbies just take longer than others to complete (designed so you use as many LPs as possible of course) so just keep at it, I know it is frustrating but you will get it one day, sorry!
I’ve been working on completing the spell caster hobby for well over a month now….I was originally doing it over and over and only would get items up to level 5 so I thought I’d give it a break and now I’ve just been doing it randomly and still I can’t get even one level 6 item! My sim had been a level 6 wizard and it shows there unlocked I just feel like this has to be a glitch how could I literally never get any level 6 after almost 2 months of trying atleast 2 times daily!
If I sell the podium can I buy a new one?
It isn’t a glitch, some just take longer to find than others, all you can do is just keep going, I know its frustrating but you will find them eventually

Did you buy it from the sorcerous supplies store? You cannot use the one from the quest so you have to buy a new one from there first then you will find it in the hobby and careers items section of your inventory.

Just started the spell casting hobby yesterday I’d only gotten the very first item (the rotten apple). This morning when I went on a message cam up saying that I hadn’t completed the hobby in time, and now it’s gone!? Have you heard of this happening to anyone before or do you have any suggestions?
A lot of people are having this glitch at the moment on timed hobby events, you will need to contact EA about this so they can sort this out for you as I am unable to fix technical issues.
Accidentally sold spell casting podium now when I go to the sorcerers store its grayed out and says I can only buy I per town. Is there another way to buy a podium?
Do you have a neighbour with a podium? If so you will be able to complete the hobby in their town, once complete you will be able to buy another podium in your town. Or you could contact EA to see if they can fix this for you.

Upon reading you answered all my questions… I love Sims so much but this FreePlay version is so challenging I spend a lot of bucks purchasing VIP for the sake of Time Expentions but still as a busy man I cannot make it on time. You will just have to keep going unfortunately, there are no tricks to it, you will find it eventually.

Hey, quick question since you mentioned that the owl can be bought in the pet section of the home store does it count as an actual pet or is it just like the rabbit that you can also buy in the home store? It doesn’t give you life points or any you mentioned it was more like decoration so I am just curious. Thank you!!
It doesn’t count as an actual pet so would be like the rabbit, you can interact with the owl but it doesn’t do much else.
